Cornwall is deservedly one of the most popular holiday destinations in the UK with people being drawn by its dramatic coastline, picturesque villages, idyllic countryside and excellent beaches.

Surrounded by the sea, you are never more than 30 miles from the coast at any point in Cornwall. This allows visitors a large number of locations from which to base their holidays, but still be within an hour's drive of the popular places to visit.

The North Coast of Cornwall tends to be more rugged and untamed with the larger sandy beaches that have made it very popular with bathers and surfers. Newquay is the largest resort, but there are a number of other less popular areas where you can have a quieter relaxed beach holiday.

The South Coast of Cornwall tends be less rugged, with a few more sheltered valleys and coves. On the whole the beaches tend to be smaller and there are less sandy beaches compared to the North.

The Cornish countryside is also beautiful, with gently rolling hills and valleys. The untamed Bodmin Moor contrasts fantastically with the River Fal or Helford river valleys.

Cornwall also has a distinct culture, with it's original Celtic language pervading the place names and signposts. Some of the fishing villages look much as they would have done a hundred years ago and although they are popular with visitors, they still retain their charm and identity. Just visit Polperro, Port Isaac or Mousehole amongst many others to experience their charm and character.

A cottage holiday in Cornwall can be as energetic or relaxing as you wish. There are a large number of activities such as surfing, sailing, cycling or walking that can keep anyone busy. Alternatively just amble into some towns or villages and enjoy a Cornish cream tea or a glass of your favourite drink and let the world drift by. Like the rest of the UK, Cornwall has become increasingly food conscious in recent years. In addition to some top rated restaurants run by well known chef's, even the smaller pubs and restaurants may offer a good standard of food using locally sourced ingredients.
