I visit many refurbished holiday cottages and barns, and this is one of the nicest I have seen for a long time! Pen y Bont lies in the most idyllic setting, south of Caernarfon, with pastureland gently giving way to the hills behind. You can hear the Afon Llyfni singing its way down to the sea, which you can see from the front of the house. This has everything that you come on holiday for! "If a guest writes 'I have just booked for next year' you know the house is just right. Of all the refurbished barns I have visited this is one of the nicest I have seen for ages." This pretty holiday cottage has been beautifully refurbished, and enormous care has been taken to retain its character. The inglenook fireplace has the original bread oven, and there are oak lintels above the windows, little nooks and crannies, and the odd exposed stone here and there to remind you of the history of this former farmhouse. Pen y Bont is close to lovely beaches and coves. Pontllyfni is the nearest beach, and it is sandy when the tide is out. The Llyn Peninsula has wonderful walks on the coastal path. You'll find good food at the Harp in Llandwrog which is close by, and the garage in nearby Clynnog Fawr has a small shop.
