Pentre Castle

Britain & Ireland, Wales

Sleeps 20

Price from £10500.00-£17500     Ref OLTR

Pentre Castle
More Details

Pentre Castle – its grounds five minutes outside a small village in north Wales, and four hours north-west of London – greets with history at the door. The entrance hall is decadently wood clad, antlers and ancestors carved into each panel, and the circular antique table in the centre is stacked with books on the home’s past, which dates back to its protracted construction in the 18th and 19th centuries. Having been in the same family of shipping merchants for this duration has lent each room – there are 26 of them – a homely feel. The vintage furnishings at eye level and original beams overhead add to the cosy milieu, despite its grand proportions. Getting familiar with the castle is a game in itself. Challenge your flock to musical chairs beneath the drawing room’s glass-paned ceiling – there are 74 seats in total – or head upstairs to play hide-and-seek in the 11 bedrooms, each coloured in subtle shades and full of antique wooden furnishings. The kitchen has a contrastingly contemporary feel, and there’s a sky-blue AGA of grand enough proportions to ensure the dining table for 12 is well-catered. The front and back garden blend seamlessly, surrounding each of the castle’s exterior stone walls, and there are free-roaming geese and a pond containing carp for afternoons spent admiring nature, not nurture.
